Ash Wednesday — officially known as the Day of Ashes — is a day of repentance, when Christians confess their sins and profess their devotion to God. It marks the beginning of the season of Lent. At All Souls, we gather for a short service of song, liturgy, a meditation from Scripture, and the imposition of ashes in place of the Lord’s Supper.
This service is a momentous gateway into the season of Lent, and it's rich and formative practice. It draws us to Christ in his time of trial and labor, that our experience of his victory and triumph would be more vivid in the Easter season to come.
