Hospitality Safety Accessibility

We are launching a campaign to raise $650,000 from September 6 through September 28, 2025.

This fall, we’re launching a capital campaign—Creating Space to Belong. After compiling survey responses, the Session believes we now have clear plans and priorities to move forward.

Over the years, we’ve modestly approached facility upgrades, prioritizing financial resources for ministry and mission. However, with New Street’s ongoing development and increasing traffic, we believe it's time to reinvest in our building’s long-term health and hospitality.

We long to be a community for our community, and these improvements will help us increase hospitality, safety, and accessibility for years to come. God has entrusted us with a beautiful space in a growing part of our city. Each of these projects reflects our longstanding commitment to reflect God’s heart for welcoming others.

This is more than a renovation—it’s the continuation of the story God is telling through All Souls: a story of faithfulness, generosity, and hope.

Hospitality

  • The improved streetscape and directional signage will create a more inviting “front door” to All Souls.

  • Creation of a downstairs reception area to create a welcoming space for kids and families.

  • Renovation of the kitchen and coffee bar will allow for more ministry opportunities, better foot-traffic flow in the lobby, and more space for fellowship and connection.

  • Replacement of aging HVAC Units will ensure a welcoming environment for years to come.

Safety

  • With the addition of over 300 residential units and a planned Grocery Store on New Street, the installation of a pedestrian walkway will provide access to the building from the parking lot, free from the increased traffic on New Street.

Accessibility

  • The addition of an elevator unit from the first to the second floor will provide full accessibility to the building for individuals with mobility needs.

I hope this campaign will offer newer members a sense of connection and investment in the physical plant of All Souls and that future generations will be able to share what God has done in the life of our church.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We have intentionally designed this campaign so that everyone who calls All Souls home can participate, regardless of their financial ability. The most powerful way you can support this effort is by becoming a prayer partner. We firmly believe that we cannot achieve our goals without the divine leading and provision of God, and your prayers are essential to our success.

Additionally, your time and talents are incredibly valuable. There will be opportunities to volunteer and provide pro-bono services throughout this campaign and the project implementation. If you have a specific skill or would like to offer your service, please let us know. Your contribution of time and effort is a vital and deeply appreciated way to participate in this mission.

  • The church's only debt is a mortgage on our building. We are pleased to report that we have an incredibly low, fixed interest rate on this loan, which significantly reduces our financial burden and ensures our monthly payments are predictable. This favorable rate allows us to direct more of our resources toward ministry and community programs, and our fundraising efforts are focused on specific projects rather than on paying down a high-interest loan.

  • We have established a clear and thoughtful list of priorities for all the projects. The projects will be completed in a specific order, and as funds become available, we will methodically move down the list. This ensures that every dollar we raise goes directly toward completing the next item on our priority list, allowing us to make consistent and visible progress toward our goals.

  • Currently, our parking lot and surrounding street are packed with construction vehicles and heavy equipment due to the major development happening next door. This creates a crowded and potentially hazardous area for anyone walking to and from our building. An exterior walkway provides a safe, dedicated path for pedestrians, keeping them out of the way of traffic, trucks, and construction activity.

But the need for a walkway won’t go away once construction is finished. With over 300 new apartments being built next door, we can expect a significant increase in foot traffic along this stretch. Having a proper sidewalk will ensure our building remains easily accessible and safe for new neighbors, guests, and families for years to come. It’s an investment in safety, hospitality, and our ability to welcome our growing community.

  • Installing an elevator is a crucial step toward making our church fully accessible and inclusive. It will allow all members of our congregation, including the elderly, parents with strollers, and individuals with disabilities, to easily access all levels of our building. This project is about ensuring that no one is excluded from any of our worship spaces, classrooms, or fellowship areas due to physical barriers. It aligns with our commitment to being a community that welcomes everyone.

  • Our main focus is on improving our overall signage—both exterior and interior—to ensure better traffic flow and easy navigation for everyone who visits.

The existing logo sign is located in a part of the building that will be directly impacted by the new construction of 300+ apartments next door. We have decided to wait until we can see the final design of that project. This will allow us to create a new, cohesive sign that not only complements our neighbors but also helps us stand out in a unique way.

Any changes to this sign also require a lengthy permitting process with the City of Decatur. By focusing on other, more immediate signage needs first, we can make faster progress in improving our visitor experience while we carefully plan a more impactful, long-term solution for our main building sign.

  • If we are blessed to exceed our fundraising goal, the additional funds will be given to our mission partners. In place of our usual "One Day 4 Change" campaign, which asks people to donate a day of their wages, these surplus funds will go directly to support the vital work of our local and global mission partners. This allows us to both complete our essential building projects and significantly increase our support for the missions and ministries we care deeply about.

I believe that each part of the vision is important to our mission; we should better welcome our neighbors, provide a safer car-free access to worship, and accommodate all physically challenged persons whether young or old.
