A Sign 4 Prayer
Hello Dear ASF Family!
Marilyn Berberich here on behalf of Prayer Matters. A few years ago, God gave me a literal sign that prompted me to meet with Pastor Steven. It confirmed God’s solid leading for me to promote prayer within my local church.
We used to live in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur. Our sons went to Decatur middle and high schools. On an ordinary sunny day, I was driving to JoAnn Fabrics. After crossing the railroad tracks, I continued on Commerce past the back side of Decatur High (school was not in session). There was a young adult black man standing on the corner of the parking lot across from the Swanton Heights development. He was smiling, waving to drivers, and holding a hand lettered sign that said:
I will Pray 4 You
It made me smile with joy, and I think I flashed him the peace sign on my way by. Having finished my shopping, I drove back the same way to see if he was still there. He was. So, I pulled into the parking lot to pull up alongside him. I thanked him for being out there. I wondered where he was coming from, so I asked a defining question: Who is Jesus to you? His answer: He is my Lord and Savior! I told him he was my brother and I really appreciated him being out there.
I asked him how he came to be out there. He replied that God told him in a dream to stand on that corner with that sign to pray for people. He had recently been through some trauma: the end of a long-term relationship, a fire in his family residence. He was discouraged. In his dream, God told him to obey with the sign and He would heal him from the depression and hurt.
I'm still in touch with this awesome Brother in Christ. He is writing music and pursuing a career in singing. I told him that God used him specifically to move me in the direction of a local prayer ministry. We were both blessed beyond the scope of our natural thoughts.
I came along after many prayer warriors who were, and still are, effective at All Souls. I know you pray, Dear Family! I’ve felt the presence of God’s Spirit during our worship services and our corporate prayer times. The reason Prayer Matters is an opportunity now is due in large part to a great Brother named Derrion.
Thanks for reading and considering Prayer Matters on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8.
