MLK Field Trip

MLK Field Trip & Discussion

Saturday, August 19 | 9:45 AM

We are blessed to live in the city of Atlanta, home to the birthplace of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. King was born and lived less than 5 miles from All Souls in the neighborhood of Sweet Auburn. Please join us on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 19th from 9:45 AM to noon as we visit his birth home, the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where he co-pastored with his father and the King Center, where Dr. and Mrs. King rest in peace. This is a great opportunity to be reminded of his life, legacy and vision of the beloved community. And it’s completely free of charge.  Children & youth welcome.

Sunday, August 20 | Following 2nd Service

We are thrilled to have Rev. Elliott Robinson leading a discussion on Sunday, Aug. 20th following our trip to the MLK Center and Sweet Auburn Historic District. In 2017, Rev. Robinson founded the non-profit Creative Tension, Inc. (creativetension.org), which uses multimedia platforms, trainings, lectures and secondary school curricula to give a voice to people and periods of struggle, forgotten by history. Creative Tension produced the Creative Tension Podcast, which used a mixture of interviews, archival audio and group discussions, to take an in-depth look at America’s Jim Crow period.Rev. Robinson serves as Assistant Pastor of New Bethel AME Church, in Lithonia, GA. Rev. Robinson is an Ecumenical Partner with the Georgia Justice Project’s campaign, Second Chance for Georgia. He is also a Teaching Assistant at the Candler School of Theology (Emory University) and Candler School of Theology’s Certificate in Theological Studies Program at Arrendale Prison for Women. The discussion will be held after the 2nd service in the youth room. Lunch will be provided.
