Paul Hummel | Ruling Elder

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT ALL SOULS?

I have been a part of All Souls since Day 1. (Or before, if you count the planning meetings!)

WHY DID YOU WANT TO SERVE AS AN ELDER? HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE GOD CALLING YOU TO THIS OFFICE?

I grew up with my parents involved in not one, but two, church plants–both of which were way wackier than All Souls! But as wacky as they were, I also saw God move through church communities in amazing ways. So I suppose my parents' example of helping lead church communities encouraged me to do the same.

One of my earliest memories of All Souls was seeing the Gospel impact people's lives in so many different ways, so helping foster such a community just felt natural.

WHAT OTHER WAYS HAVE YOU SERVED AT ALL SOULS?

The earliest days of All Souls had my wife, Kim, and I teaching Sunday School (anyone remember Kid Zone?) for elementary and middle school. I've also led community groups on and off. Recently I've ventured back into Sunday School and will be teaching 4th/5th graders this year.

HOW HAS GOD USED ALL SOULS IN YOUR LIFE?

Most recently I've been encourage to see how All Souls has impacted our whole family, being involved in MLK work days and going to Guatemala to build houses.

It's been especially exciting to see our three sons get engaged with the youth group and even teaching Sunday School.

TELL US SOMETHING INTERESTING AND UNEXPECTED ABOUT YOURSELF.

Having lived in Atlanta for 30 plus years I've come to appreciate and enjoy college football, but my deepest sports passions still lie in upstate NY, hoping every year that either Cornell hockey or Syracuse basketball will win just one more national championship.
